Ali is a book nerd. So when she sees a cute surfer each day out on the beach she assumes they're worlds apart. But after Cooper mans up and approaches Ali.... a relationship follows that shows her they're more alike than she thought. Cooper is more than meets the eye. They hit it off immediately, but after her summer vacation is over and she heads back for her senior year of high school... will they stand the tests their relationship will endure? In my opinion this book had really good bones. The author has some great stuff in here. I had a few laugh out loud moments and even cried once. I almost never cry when I read.
But I have 2 things that keep it from being 5 stars.
** this may be considered a spoiler to some**
1- Sometimes the story was missing a little depth. Like in the beginning on their first date.If we had heard a little more conversation between them to feel their chemistry, it would have helped make it real. And when we learned that over the next few weeks they were always together, we needed more. Like a couple scenes from that as examples of their love... so that we would feel as deeply as they do. I think it would just have made some stronger roots. And not to give a spoiler but we probably should have been given a scene where Ali was around Cooper's mom so that we could have not learned something new about it at the end of the book.
2- A lot of the time it felt wooden or robotic. The author didn't really use that many contractions. I just don't think that's how most people talk these days. Maybe if it were set back in the time of Dracula it would have ;o) but otherwise not using contractions in a contemporary book comes across stiff. I've only seen that type of writing used successfully once- and that was from the book Something Borrowed and that's because she was a lawyer. That's how they write their depositions so it worked. Otherwise, it needs to use "I'm" instead "I am" to give it heart and warmth. But this is how a lot of the new independent authors are writing so I'm guessing it's supposed to be a sign of fantastic work to not use them. ;o) As a reader I would have to respectfully disagree. =)
This author definitely has a lot of promise and I would check out her future books to see what they're about. She's got a gift at tugging the heart strings that's for sure. Because my star rating for the book was raised in the last 3 or 4 chapters. ;o)

What an amazing love story. It starts out as you're normal love story where girls sees boy across the way an boy returns everyday to see her. They date and fall in love then as summer ends, they have to part ways.
Allie starts her senior year the same time her boyfriend Cooper starts his new teaching job. They thought they would b miles apart at different schools until a mistake on the schools part is fixed and Cooper I now Allie's English teacher. The book is about the struggle these two endure while dealing with their feelings.
I know it may seem a if I've spoiled it but the twist at the end, one I didn't see coming, is what you need to read this book for. It is heart wrenching and has a very happy ending.
I'm probably just too old for this type of book because I didn't think it was incredible like many of the other reviews. But I do have to say this author definitely has potential. The premise of the book is a familiar one, but the characters are actually honest and forthcoming with one another. The problem I had with this book is the auther seems to be in a hurry to get through the beginning of this book...she makes these two characters meet, date, fall in love, and start dreading leaving one another within just a few pages! I would have preferred the book to be a little longer and to allow for a little more character development. The rest of the story is good, if a little rushed. And the ending is cute. It's a bit of fluffy fun if you have a few hours to waste.
Hmm, well when reading everyone's reviews I had a very different expectation of this book. I will admit it was a good story, but now is where I agree with those before me that it was definitely lacking in some areas. There really could have been more interaction between them, and while the author seemed to indicate the Alli knew Coops story and all about him, as a reader we knew almost nothing. I think the author really could have spent more time giving us details into the story that would have absolutely made the characters much more fully dimensional and well-rounded. As they were, the characters were all flat and the emotional attachment just wasn't there. My belief in this feeling was definitely justified when I didn't get emotional once at any point. I read so many reviews of people saying they cried for the last quarter of the book, but to me the story and characters were so flat and just on paper that none of it really affected me. Now, all that being said, I did truly enjoy reading a book where both the main characters are educated, intelligent, hard-working people and neither of them was a slut, or emotionally scarred by their past abuse. Both Alli and Coop were refreshing in their honesty and goodness. I would love to see that in books more often but I get that it's harder to sell to most of the readers in the world.
Overall, decent book. Quick and easy ready that I appreciated but just wished I could have been offered more by. It had all the potential in the world to be a standout novel but it fell short and ended up simply being mediocre
I loved this book! I admit I tend to read a lot of student and teacher relationship books, after all - who has not had a crush on their at some point throughout school. I loved Allison and Cooper. Allison is under the impression that she fell in love immediately, but Coopersaw her first. They had a summer together and fell in love, she was turning 18 and he was 21. At the end of summer they knew it would be a struggle to stay together until she graduated, especially when he would be teaching at a school 500 miles away. There was a change in plan, he would be teacher at her school, and he would be her English teacher. They struggled big time. Rumors, her best friend knowing the truth, whether they would wait until graduation to be together, make out moments in classrooms, Cooper waiting outside her home when she was with a male friend - and then a tragic twist that changes everything. Its an amazing book and I cannot wait to read other books by this author!
